Induction: 2003 Barry A. Cassidy
is a graduate of Duke PA Program, Excelsior College (B.S.), The
University of The State of New York, Albany, New York and Union
Institute and University (Ph.D. in Bioethics and Health Care Sciences)
in Cincinnati, Ohio. In July, 2002, Dr. Cassidy was appointed Executive
Director of the Arizona Medical Board, the first time a physician
assistant has been named Executive Director of any State medical
board. Prior to this position, Dr. Cassidy served as Chair of the
Arizona Joint Board on the Regulation of Physician Assistants and
concurrently held the position of Professor, Associate Dean and
founding Director of the Physician Assistant Program of the College
of Health Sciences at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona.
Before moving to Arizona, he was Director of Clinical Services and
Executive Vice President of Park Medical Center and Southern Emergency
Medical Associates in Research Triangle Park, NC. As the first
physician assistant in the State of Illinois, Dr. Cassidy worked
closely with the Illinois Hospital Association to establish guidelines
for physician assistant practice in the hospital setting. He served
on the Governors Health Licensure Commission for the State
of Illinois and was a member of the Advisory Panel of the National
Board of Medical Examiners, which developed the national certifying
examination for physician assistants. He has also served as Vice
President of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and has
held numerous positions in the Arizona State Association of Physician
Assistants. Dr. Cassidy has chaired numerous academic, bioethics
and institutional research review committees and holds a patent
for a catheter system connector. Additionally, he has authored numerous
publications and has a distinguished record of professional presentations.
In 1998, Dr. Cassidy received Midwestern Universitys Gold
Standard Award, given by the President of the University to a faculty
member exemplifying excellence in leadership and mentoring.
