Mr. Davis currently works in ambulatory care and coordinates the
Hypertension Screening and Treatment Program for the Department
of Veterans Affairs in Memphis, TN. Prior to entering the Duke PA
Program, Mr. Davis served in the Air Force and worked as an LPN
for the Durham Veterans Administration Hospital. Since graduation,
he has worked in family and internal medicine specialties in a variety
of settings in Florida and Tennessee. He is an officer in the Tennessee
Army National Guard Medical Detachment and recent graduate of the
University of Memphis.
While in Florida, Mr. Davis helped charter the Florida Academy
of Physician Assistants. In addition, he worked in a family medicine
clinic serving medically disadvantaged individuals. He also served
as president and a member of several community agencies, and raised
funds to repair homes and provide over 15 tons of food and other
commodities for low income families. As a member of the Memphis
Chapter of the National Lupus Foundation, Mr. Davis has provided
health education classes on lupus, hypertension, and AIDS prevention
to various church and community groups.
Professionally, Mr. Davis has been recognized for his charter work in minority and multicultural affairs. He is especially recognized for his role as national coordinator of Project Access, an outreach program for minority high school programs. Mr. Davis has served on the boards of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants (TAPA), and been a member of the AAPA’s House of Delegates. He has chaired or been a member of numerous professional committees. He is currently an AAPA Liaison to the National High Blood Pressure Education Coordinating Committee of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Mr. Davis received the American Academy of Physician Assistant Public Education Achievement Award (1994) and the Outstanding Service Award from the Department of Veteran Affairs (1995). He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program in 1999 for his continued professional, clinical service and leadership roles, especially for promoting the PA concept to minorities and his work with disadvantaged citizens of Florida and Tennessee.
