| Edward
H. Gaile, Sr., PA-C Managing Partner
Cardiovascular Physicians of North Atlanta
Atlanta, GA Class of 1978
Induction: 2002 Ed Gaile began his career like other sentinel members of the PA
profession, as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Military Services
during the Vietnam era. After military service, he graduated from
the University of Virginia with a BA in Government Studies and eventually
from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program (BHS). Mr.
Gaile entered practice in 1978 in association with a Professor of
Cardiology at the Emory University School of Medicine. Since that
time, he has practiced clinical cardiology in Atlanta, Georgia with
experience in general cardiology, critical care and transplant medicine.
Mr. Gaile first became involved in the PA profession as president
of the Eugene Stead Student Society and delegate from the Duke program
to the American Academy of Physician Assistants’ House of
Delegates. As a leader in the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants,
he was instrumental in the early development of practice definitions
and professional representation at the state legislature and Board
of Medical Examiners. After successfully shepherding enabling legislation
to secure PA representation on the Medical Board, Mr. Gaile served
as one of the first members of the PA Advisory Committee and was
elected as the first non-physician ex officio member of the
Board, a position from which he helped define and improve the delivery
of medical services to the citizens of Georgia. Over the years,
he has served the Georgia Association of Physician Assistants in
many capacities: president, secretary, chairman of various committees,
and legislative representative to Georgia General Assembly, and
member of the Senate Select Committee on Regulation of PAs. To address
national professional concerns, Mr. Gaile has served as a member
of the American Academy of Physician Assistants’ House of
Delegates, and served extended terms on the Professional Certification
Committee, including a 5 year appointment as committee chairman,
Judicial Affairs Committee, and the PA Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Appointment as liaison representative to the American College of
Cardiology brought acclaim to the Academy and the profession, as
Mr. Gaile was the first PA to participate in the College’s
annual policy research conference resulting in a strong advocacy
statement for physician assistant inclusion in future personnel
needs for cardiovascular health care in America. During his 9-year
service as NCCPA commissioner and member of the Board of Directors,
he served as Treasurer and on many internal affairs committees,
and was instrumental in producing rational, balanced resolution
of conflict during a period of significant organizational and philosophical
restructuring. As an advocate for PA education, he has supported
the PA Foundation and provided rotational experience for numerous
PA students. He is a contributing author in cardiology to The
Physician Assistant Medical Handbook and the Bethesda Conference
of the American College of Cardiology. He remains staunchly
enthusiastic about the PA role in medical and community affairs,
highlighted by numerous appointments to local hospital committees
and participation in community health education projects. Mr. Gaile has received many awards and certificates of appreciation
including the 1978 Richard J. Scheele Memorial Award for outstanding
scholastic and clinical achievement from the Duke University Physician
Assistant Program, 1986 President’s Award from the Georgia
Association of Physician Assistants, and the 2001 Distinguished
Alumnus Award, Duke University Physician Assistant Program. < < < Back
