Since 1998, the Duke University Physician Assistant Program and the Department of Community and Family Medicine have sponsored a teaching fellowship for graduate physician assistants at the Durham, NC campus. The fellowship is a full-time one-year position.

One fellow is accepted each academic year. The fellow enters a structured educational program and is expected to:

  • attend the Duke Faculty Development Workshop Series
  • develop PA learning modules
  • design and complete an educational research project
  • develop computer skills essential for the educator
  • precept PA and other health professions students
  • teach or facilitate small group learning sessions
  • lecture
  • use educational technology, including web-based course management programs
  • participate in administrative, admissions and budgeting activities
  • participate in regional and national meetings to gain knowledge of the breadth of PA educational programs
  • practice one day per week in a clinical setting

One PA will be accepted to begin the fellowship in July 2009. Applications are currently being accepted.  A fellowship stipend of $70,000 is awarded for the year-long fellowship.

Prerequisites for Application
Graduates of all accredited PA programs are invited to apply. A master's degree is required. The candidate must have at least one year of clinical experience and current NCCPA certification. Complete applications will contain: letter of interest, resume or CV, all post-secondary transcripts, and three letters of recommendation, in one envelope, addressed to:
