Since 1991, 53 Duke PA students have been the recipients of National Health Service Corps scholarships. NHSC scholars receive full tuition and fee reimbursement as well as a monthly stipend throughout their education, in return for two years of service in a site recognized as medical underserved by the National Health Service Corps. Duke NHSC scholars have practiced following graduation in a variety of settings, including rural clinics and inner city practices.

"Prior to entering the Duke University Physician Assistant program, I worked in Public Health at two county Health Departments. My exposure to under served populations in these settings were an asset to me when applying for the National Health Services Corp Scholarship. The National Health Services Corp Scholarship helped to fund my education by providing a monthly stipend while in training and through direct payment of my tuition in exchange for a two year commitment to provide healthcare to an under served population. The benefit of the National Health Services Corp Scholarship is that my college loans will be paid in full in two years while I am providing care to a population that is in need and with whom I am familiar."
